The promotion seems like a sweet little slice of holiday cheer, but, as Amanda Silberling, a writer at TechCrunch, pointed out, “Meanwhile, drivers are overworked, peeing in bottles, and working late into the night, making for dangerous working conditions. But if you use Alexa, they can get $5!” The news also comes on the coattails of a fight to reverse its workers’ historic union vote and a lawsuit filed against the company over theft of tips, which the suit argues were used to help cover the drivers’ base salaries.
