And on tonight’s episode, Stella finally returned to the apartment she shares with Severide (Taylor Kinney), if only briefly at the end, with her suitcase in tow. The question remains if she is staying or if she will be heading out again to launch Girls on Fire, the program that she created and is near and dear to her heart, in more cities. “That’s all we get for now,” executive producer/showrunner Derek Haas exclusively told Parade.com. “But we’re going to pick up on the other side of the holiday break with the scene that would follow immediately after that. I’m not saying it’s going to smooth sailing for Stella, but watching Miranda again is fun for me.”

Is Kidd leaving Chicago Fire?

Haas had revealed in a previous interview that Stella would return before the end of the year, but initially he had his doubts whether or not her schedule would permit. “I did want to see her before we broke for the winter,” he said. “I wasn’t sure just from a schedule making standpoint if I was going to have the actress be available for the ninth episode. So, I was really happy when Miranda was available for nine. We knew we had her back for 10, but I thought, ‘Oh, if we could just get her for a little bit of nine, wouldn’t that be awesome?’” Stella is too late to take over Casey’s position on truck, Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) has already offered that job to Jason Pelham (Brett Dalton), so it remains to be seen what lies in her future.

What happened to Stella on Chicago Fire?

Haas said, “She has other things going on in her life… namely, some Girls on Fire-related business takes up her time.” But then on the episode where Severide (Taylor Kinney) sat down for a “cigar chat” with Herrmann (David Eigenberg), he told him, “I don’t know when Stella is coming back. She tells me and then it changes. I know that Girls on Fire really means a lot to her. It’s just we’ve never had this much distance between us. I don’t know what’s going on with her or where she’s going to be when she does come back.”  So, her absence may lead to some storyline changes.  Stay tuned. Stella was absent from the 200th episode of the series, so she wasn’t able to say goodbye to Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer), but Spencer indicated during an interview with Parade.com and other reporters that he may return to the show—at least for a guest spot or two. “With Jesse possibly coming back at some point in this season, we’ll see a Kidd/Casey scene I’m sure,” Haas said in that same interview. That scene could be at Kidd’s wedding to Severide (Taylor Kinney), because Casey is supposed to be Severide’s best man. And when asked by Parade.com if he would return for the wedding, Spencer said, “How could I not?” While Haas added, “We’re in the camp of whenever Jesse wants to come and do an episode with us, we will move mountains to make that happen. So, we’ve been talking. We’ve got some ideas and I would say you’ve hit the nail on the head as to what some of those moments might be.” Chicago Fire is only five episodes into its 10th season, and with Spencer’s departure in the 200th episode, the series needed to spend time to build his exit story to make it have a ring of truth to it. Now that he is gone, there is room for Kidd’s story to unfold, which, hopefully, will include both her career trajectory and her engagement and upcoming wedding to Severide. But here’s a crazy thought. When Casey was in Firehouse 51, there were too many officers, and it looked as if Kidd would have to transfer to another firehouse in order to serve at her rank. But with Casey’s exit, what if Kidd will be his replacement in command of Truck 81? “We’re doing a major storyline over who’s going to be the next commanding officer of Truck 81, so I don’t want to spoil anything but that becomes a storyline through the winter break because, obviously, there is some shifting chairs within the firehouse,” Haas said in the same interview he discussed Casey’s departure.
