The Sidney Poitier documentary producer reflected on the recent passing of the late monarch and her legacy.“You know, everybody gets called the queen–there really was one. And she is the standard for all the rest of us, whoever gets called queens, and the reason she was is because of her service,” Winfrey told Access Hollywood reporters. Winfrey continued: “Martin Luther King said that it is the greatest offering anybody can bring to the world is service, because greatness is determined through service, and I think what she did was serve her countrymen and serve everyone for 70 years, and the sacrifice that that takes to make when you’re 25 years old and to say, ‘I’m going to offer myself in sacrifice to my country.’ That’s what she did." As previously reported, Britain’s longest-serving monarch—and the second-longest serving monarch in world history—Queen Elizabeth II, passed away on Sept. 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland at 96. The Royal Family announced the Queen’s death via a notice posted on the gate of Buckingham Palace, which read: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral Palace this afternoon. The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.” Earlier that day, the monarch’s doctors were concerned for her health when she pulled out of a virtual privy meeting set for the morning. She remained under medical supervision with her four children and her grandsons, Prince William and Prince Harry by her side. A service for The Queen will first be held in the capital of Scotland on Sept. 12. Her state funeral is expected to take place on Sept. 19, 2022, in London at Westminster Abbey before her committal at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. More News:
