Here’s everything we know so far about season 2 of the EPIX series Pennyworth.
Who is Alfred Pennyworth?
When we first met Alfred Pennyworth, he was an older gentleman—Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler and confidante. He was also Wayne’s legal guardian and surrogate father after the death his parents. A former special ops military man with ties to the intelligence community, Alfred is Bruce’s moral compass. In Pennyworth, audiences learn of the titular character’s life and adventures long before the idea of Batman comes to fruition. A young Pennyworth is now retired from the military but continues to use the skills he learned as a special operative in his current life and business dealings.
What’s Pennyworth about?
Pennyworth is an action-adventure series from DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. The series follows a young Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), who later becomes Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler. A former British SAS soldier, Alfie—as he’s known to his friends, forms a security company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) in 1960s London in the first season.

Pennyworth returns to EPIX in 2021 for the second half of season 2. Episode 5 will premiere on March 7 on EPIX.
When does Pennyworth take place?
Season 1 was set in 1960s London. In season 2, which takes place about a year after the events of the previous season, Alfred Pennyworth now owns a club as rising tensions in the UK sprout talk of a civil war.
What are the opposing factions in Pennyworth?
The two main (and opposing) factions in the show are the Raven Society and the No Name League.
Raven Society
This underground extremist group aims to overthrow the UK government and set up a fascist state. Hidden in the shadows for years, the society is currently being led by Lord Harwood (Jason Flemyng). Members include Bet Sykes and her sister, Peggy.
No Name League
The radical left-wing group includes Thomas Wayne and Martha Kane. Members are referred to as “No Name”. They oppose Raven Society’s ideals and philosophy.
Who’s in the cast of Pennyworth?
Jack Bannon (as Alfred Pennyworth)
Bannon plays the titular character in the EPIX series. The British actor was turned down twice for drama school before he landed a role on the British series, Endeavor. His previous credits include The Imitation Game, Medici and Ripper Street.
Ben Aldridge (as Thomas Wayne)
Aldridge plays billionaire Thomas Wayne, the future father of Batman’s Bruce Wayne. The philanthropist is a bit square and incredibly polite. He and Martha Kane share a mutual attraction to one another. You may remember the English actor from roles on Reign and Fleabag.
Emma Paetz (as Martha Kane)
In DC lore, Martha Kane marries Thomas Wayne and gives birth to Bruce Wayne (who later becomes Batman). In Pennyworth, Martha and Thomas are still in the early stages of their relationship, but the attraction is palpable. Kane was featured in Gentleman Jack.
Paloma Faith (as Bet Sykes)
Bet is wicked, dark and sadistic. The villainess is loyal to Lord Harwood and the Raven Society. Faith is also a successful singer-songwriter with three top-10 albums and numerous top-10 singles.
Jason Flemyng (as Lord Hardwood)
Lord Harwood is an upper-class Englishman. He’s brilliant but a bit mad. Flemyng’s first major film role was in Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. He has been featured in such films as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Social Network as well as TV series Primeval, Black Mirror and Jamestown.
What new characters will be introduced in Pennyworth season 2?
James Purefoy (as Captain Gulliver Troy)
Troy is Pennyworth’s former SAS captain. He’s charismatic and cultured but also a brute. He’s a man of many appetites including drink, women and danger. Purefoy’s most notable roles are Mark Antony in HBO’s Rome, John Carroll in Fox’s The Following and as Hap on Sundance TV’s Hap & Leonard.
Edward Hogg (as John Salt)
Salt is a killer and a wannabe despot masquerading as an obedient civil servant. Hogg’s previous roles include Harlots, The Borgias and Misfits.
Jessye Romeo (as Katie Browning)
Katie is an idealistic art student who is taken by Bet Sykes. You may have also seen her on Curfew and The Long Run.
Ramon Tikaram (Detective Inspector Aziz)
Aziz is loyal to The Crown and looks to stop both the Raven Society and the No Name League’s rise to power. Fun fact: Tikaram once turned down a role in the Star Wars prequel trilogy because they wanted him to cut his hair.
Harriet Slater (as Sandra Onslow)
Onslow is Alfie’s on-again-off-again girlfriend. The chanteuse performs regularly at Pennyworth’s club and dreams of becoming a star.
Simon Manyonda (as Lucius Fox)
Lucius Foxis a young American scientist. He’s deliberately calm, honest and direct to a fault. An integral part of the DC universe, this marks his introduction to the Wayne family. Manyonda’s previous roles include His Dark Materials, Doctor Who and Whitechapel.
Jessica de Gouw (as Melanie Troy)
Melanie Troy is the wife of Gulliver Troy. She and Alfie share an immediate connection and attraction. De Gouw’s previous roles included The Huntress on CW’s Arrow, Mina Murray on NBC’s Dracula, and Elizabeth Hawks on WGN’s Underground.
