In a new Instagram video documenting the competition, the 46-year-old actress walked around to various participants to evaluate their festive sweaters before naming an official winner. “Today is the last day before Christmas and we’re here on set of The Morning Show,” Witherspoon says in the introduction of the clip. “We are having an ugly sweater contest… it’s gonna get real.” “It’s gonna get real good,” she further teased. The Legally Blonde alum is then seen interacting with the contestants, starting off with an “adorable” decked-out sweater dress, followed by a sweater that shows off a fake beer belly, which made Witherspoon burst out laughing. “I think you’re gonna win,” she is heard saying. The next sweater featured an expletive with the phrase, “Jolly as f–k,” although the last word was covered with stickers in the video. “We can’t decide if we should give you extra points for a bad word or if we should deduct,” Witherspoon quipped. But there were plenty more NSFW sweaters, including one that featured Santa going to the bathroom in a chimney, and another with reindeer that appear to be mating. “Not appropriate,” Witherspoon said while shaking her finger toward the camera. “Not good for kids.” Other sweaters included a full-on Buddy the Elf costume from Will Ferrell’s Elf, a sweater adorned with edible candy treats, and even one that featured a baby photo of Witherspoon, as well as one of her co-star Jennifer Aniston from when she was a baby. Of course, the Four Christmases star couldn’t miss out on all the Christmas fun herself, as she also revealed her own look along with the show’s costume designer, with the pair fully dressed in matching head-to-toe gingerbread suits. But there could only be one winner, which Witherspoon announced at the end of the clip, where she appeared dressed up in professional attire to play her character on the show, broadcast journalist Bradley Jackson. Witherspoon revealed the winners as four crew members who did a group look, with matching green sweaters that actually revealed hilarious t-shirts underneath that made it look like they all had shredded muscles. “Holiday fun on the set of @themorningshow 🎄🤣” Witherspoon captioned the amusing post. Fans in the comments seemed to love the holiday content, while many of her followers took the opportunity to inquire about The Morning Show Season 3, for which a release date has yet to be announced. As Parade previously reported, the show—which is still in production—will likely return in the summer or fall of 2023.
