To celebrate the occasion, his parents released a cute new portrait of their oldest child that was taken by Duchess Kate herself. In the picture, George wears a light blue polo shirt and grins on the beach. The photo was taken while the Cambridges were on a family vacation in the UK. Can you believe it’s been nine years since the Duchess of Cambridge emerged from the hospital where she gave birth to display the future heir to the throne? (July 22, 2013, was also the day Kate wore that iconic blue polka dot dress that called to mind the similar dress Princess Diana wore when she emerged from the same hospital with the newborn Prince William in her arms.) When George and his siblings were younger, glimpses of them were rare apart from their annual birthday snapshots. But times have changed—we’ve seen a lot of all three Cambridge kids over the summer. George was at Wimbledon with his mom a few weeks ago, and while Kate dressed for the British heatwave in a breezy summer dress, George was forced to sit for three hours in the baking heat wearing a miniature suit. (Poor George! He was heard complaining to William that he was “too hot” at one point.) Meanwhile his 7-year-old sister Princess Charlotte and 4-year-old brother Prince Louis were out and about alongside George for their great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee celebrations in June. It’s not known where the Cambridge family is spending the summer but it seems like they’re on vacation again—a video captured Kate, William and their kids climbing into a helicopter near Kensington Palace on July 13. Reports suggest that they’ve jetted off to the Caribbean island of Mustique, which is where they vacationed for George’s sixth birthday back in 2019. They stayed for two weeks at a $33,000-per-week villa that featured dreamy views out to Mustique’s neighboring islands of Bequia and Saint Vincent. The Cambridges—as well as Kate’s parents Carole and Michael Middleton—had the run of five luxury bedrooms, a 60-foot infinity pool, a lush private garden and an al-fresco dining pavilion. During their time there the family enjoyed the services of a private butler and an in-house chef, who provided signature dishes including prawn ceviche, grilled lobster and slow-cooked baby back ribs. Mustique has been a royal getaway destination for decades. In 1960, Princess Margaret became a frequent visitor to the island after being given a 10-acre plot as a wedding present, and even Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip vacationed there. More controversially, Mustique was also the spot where the duchess was photographed by a paparazzo, and the pictures of Duchess Kate in a bikini while pregnant with George were subsequently published in the French magazine Chi.
