This trend, which started with the Gen Z company, Ninety Eight, started almost in a rebellion against the more political and formal closers that lack personal connection. After all, a casual approach seems more relational and goes along with dress codes being more casual in many workplaces—as well as the fact that more people are working from home now than ever before. If you’re working in your sweats, it would go against the grain to write formally, right? However, what seems fun and relational to the younger workers could easily offend others. Since most workplaces are multi-generational, this trend in casual-everything may seem unprofessional. But whatever your own views are about these closing remarks, you’ll likely find it entertaining to see how off-the-wall some of the Gen Z email sign-offs are. Here are some hilarious examples of what is being shared on social media.
Funny Gen Z Email Closers
What started with the company, Ninety-Eight, has spread to other Gen Z companies. This video from, Oilshore, shows a variety of unique email closers that include several closers that definitely show some snark. Maybe it’s a passive-aggressive way of communicating true feelings or a play to be sarcastically funny. Whatever the reason, “Mean regards,” “Cold regards” and even “Lukewarm regards” definitely warrant a double-take.

Another TikTok video was released by the same company as more snarky email sign-offs were being used. If you need us, we’ll just be LOL-ing over here.

While some email sign-offs are snarky or super casual, others can be confusing for those in older generations. Some coworkers may not catch the meaning of closers like “YEET” or “Pop off.”

The last one on this list is what a lot of us are secretly saying to ourselves with each email.
