Today’s Wordle Answer #238: Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022

Today marks the second day that Wordle is hosted by The New York Times, and good news: So far it’s still free! If you need a hint for today’s Wordle solution, think of detergent, or perhaps the letters “MK” and illegal human experimentation by the CIA. Ready to guess? Here’s how we did. Going outside of the “RATES,” “TEARS,” “TARES,” “STARE,” “STEAR” box slightly today, we used “STRAY” as our Wordle starting word. After all, in this week’s past Wordle answers, “CRANE” didn’t really serve us too well, and neither did “SOARE,” both of which had previously been dubbed the best Wordle starting words possibly ever. It didn’t make too much of a difference in terms of letters used, and in fact, using a word with an E instead of a Y like “STRAY” would likely have been better this time around in terms of the process of elimination. Knowing T, R, and A were in today’s Wordle answer, we tried out “TRACK.” We’ve found, not just in regular Wordle, but also in other games like Wordle, that it’s easy to forget the ubiquity of words ending in “CK,” simply because K usually isn’t in anyone’s starting word. Keeping T, R, and A in order, we next opted for “EXTRA,” and it cost us an extra line—but the letter placement made getting the ultimate solution much easier. With only two letters missing, we were able to figure out “ULTRA” very quickly at that point. Did today’s Wordle make you feel ultra-smart once you figured it out? Next, try out these Wordle tips and tricks (including recommended Wordle starting words) to get a leg up on tomorrow’s puzzle!
