*Spoiler alert: We can’t talk about this topic without giving away details from Firefly Lane season 1. If you don’t want to know what happens, stop reading now! In the final episode of the season, the estranged pair see each other at Bud’s (Paul McGillion) funeral where Kate tells Tully she could never forgive her for what she did. So what did Tully do?
What events happen in the Firefly Lane series on Netflix that could be the cause for the rift between Kate and Tully?
One might believe it’s because Tully signed the consent form that allowed Kate’s daughter, Marah (Yael Yurman) to have access to birth control pills. But this misstep on Tully’s part seems to be only mildly annoying to Kate. Or you might think it’s that one time Johnny and Tully hooked up long before he and Kate were ever an item, but it’s not.
What happens between Tully and Kate on Firefly Lane? What did Tully do?
Though they only hint in the Netflix series at the major event that causes the rift in their decades-long friendship, the event is a major plot point in the book. In the novel by Kristin Hannah, Kate and her teenaged daughter have a strained relationship (something they only touch upon in the series). Kate turns to Tully for help. Tully, thinking she can fix their relationship, asks the two to come onto her talk show, The Girlfriend Hour, to work out their problems on air. Kate agrees but once on the show, Tully turns the tables on her friend making the show about overprotective moms and essentially calling Kate a bad mother on national television. After the taping, Johnny, who was Tully’s producer on the show, quits. Kate storms off the set and refuses to speak to Tully again, their friendship forever damaged, or one would think. The two, who were inseparable for decades, reconcile their friendship years later, but only months before Kate dies of breast cancer. It is Kate’s call from the hospital that prompts Tully to come to her friend’s bedside as she battles the ravaging disease.
Now that Firefly Lane has been picked up for season 2, will producers use the talk show debacle as the event that puts a wedge in Kate and Tully’s friendship?
Whether the series will mirror this event to cause the rift between the two friends or create something entirely new altogether is anyone’s guess. Firefly Lane season 1 is currently available to stream on Netflix. Next, Everything You Need to Know So Far About Season 2 of Firefly Lane
