Now, in the first hour of a two-part Season 11 finale, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) discovers that his nephew Joe is working undercover for the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) to bring down a gunrunning organization. Danny was working a homicide and Joe was one of three perps he and his partner took down. Danny then confronts Frank, who admits that he knew Joe was undercover, but not that he was in Manhattan. And it gets worse! Frank tells Danny that Jamie (Will Estes) has been Joe’s handler while he is undercover. “The season finale is unlike any Blue Bloods we’ve ever done,” says Wahlberg in the video below. Then in the second hour, the Reagans band together to prevent Joe Hill from being killed in the line of duty like his father when they fear Joe’s cover has been blown within the gunrunning outfit he’s helping the ATF bring down. “In one way or another, each Reagan is trying to make sure that Joe Hill is OK,” Selleck says. Following is all the info on this mystery family member.
How is Joe Hill related to the Reagans and who figured it out?
Danny’s son Sean (Andrew Terraciano) had been assigned an ancestry project for school and through it, his DNA was matched to a male cousin he had never been told about. But at the same time that happened, Paula decided to break her silence and she set up a meeting with Frank at the commissioner’s office because she had a request: She wanted Frank to reassign Joe to a less dangerous posting than the one he had. And to convince him to do so, she revealed that Joe Hill was Frank’s grandson. That Joe Reagan was his father. Before Frank makes his decision, he invites Officer Joe Hill, who is an exemplary officer, to his office at 1PP without revealing why.
Why didn’t Frank and the rest of the Reagans know about Joe Hill?
Joe Reagan’s girlfriend Paula Hill (Bonnie Somerville) was pregnant at the time of Joe’s death, but Joe hadn’t told the family. So, when Joe died, Paula decided to shield her son from the Reagan family. She gave him her maiden name and never told him about the family legacy of policing.
How do the Reagans react to the news that there is a newly revealed member of the Reagan family?
They actually took the bombshell news pretty well. In fact, they agreed it would be great to invite Joe over to meet the family at one of their Sunday family dinners. But when Frank told Paula he would not be transferring Joe to a “safer” assignment, because in police work there really is no such thing, her knee jerk reaction was that Joe wouldn’t be allowed to meet them. Of course, he is a grown man, so he was able to make up his own mind. Joe really didn’t need his mother to introduce him to the Reagans. He had already been connected to Sean through the ancestry site, so Sean took it upon himself to bring his cousin to dinner where he was introduced to all at a getting-to-know-him meal. “It was really a special room to find myself in,” Hochman told TVInsider. “It was quite the departure from the most recent thing I’d done, which was a two-person show on Broadway.”
Who plays Joe Hill on Blue Bloods?
Officer Joseph Hill is played by Will Hochman. He is considered a recurring cast member, which means he won’t be in every episode, but he will appear in the Season 11 premiere and then again in the Dec. 11 episode. Love crime shows? Read everything we know about Law & Order: Organized Crime
